Operation Snowflake

Operation Snowflake is a one-day Snow program for Junior High or Middle School students. Our goal at Snowflake is to help Junior High or Middle School students from many different schools meet new friends, learn information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, encourage them to continue to choose to be drug free, and provide them with some of the skills and ideas they might need to be able to say “no.” Snowflake is based on the tenet that accurate, reliable information leads to positive, responsible decision-making. The program delivers information about alcohol and other drugs, communication skills, decision-making and problem solving skills and a support system within a peer group setting.

The format of Snowflake involves large group presentations followed by small group discussions and activities. We’ve had all kinds of different speakers at Snowflake, and all of them have been chosen because of their ability to connect with elementary school students while delivering a positive message about making good choices.

At Snowflake, Snowball (high school) teen staff are paired with adult staff. Together they plan and facilitate small groups during this event. Snowflake is held once a year and students from both District #203 and District #204 are welcome.

Our staff are trained to be able to help students meet new people, to help them feel comfortable in their small groups, and to be able to play games or have discussions that teach them about making good choices.

If You Want To:

  • See the schedule for the day.
  • At the end of each Snowflake event, we always show parents and participants a powerpoint that we’ve put together of the day. If you’d like to see a powerpoint from a recent Snowflake, or download one from the event your son or daughter participated in.
  • Parents - looking for discussion ideas for conversations you can have with your children about Snowflake?
  • Staff App – Every fall we look for 10-15 high school students who are alcohol, tobacco, and other drug free to lead small discussion groups at Snowflake. Interested in applying? Download our staff application and contact Ian Shaw to arrange an interview. (Application will be posted -please check back)
